Pirates shakey off rust, shake up Sheridan

SHERIDAN – Perrydale girls basketball coach Terry Newton had words of caution for his team before Thursday night’s game against Sheridan: “You’re going to have rust.”

The game against the Class 3A Spartans at the Spartan Dome marked the second of the season for the Class 2A Pirates, and first since a Dec. 3 victory over Willamina. Indeed, Perrydale committed 14 turnovers and had little offensive flow against Sheridan.

“We wanted to eat our cake or dinner instead of waiting for it,” Newton said. “We just didn’t play together because we got greedy.”
